1st January 2014

2014 is upon us, and AWF is excited for the year ahead. Many shows will run this year, there are new local talents rising up, and international guests lining up. New projects are also in the works, and wrestling school trainees are working hard. It is set to be a good year of pro-wrestling in AWF.

2013 AWF Year Awards
Wrestler of the Year: Iron Ben Coles
Coles held the AWF Championship for 3 years until finally being beaten by Jay Law in October. A true milestone and exceptional length to hold any title.
Tag Team Of The Year: Beasts Of The Colosseum - Dean Draven & Gladiator Apollo
Defeated Elite Tag Team of Falco & Linstrom in record time at AussieMania 2 on 29 June, 2012 and remained Champions for all of 2013. A solid year of teaming, and in addition Apollo also won December’s OJ Fitzpatrick Cup Tournament.
Match Of The Year: Jay Law Vs Iron Ben Coles - PsychoticSlam 2013 (12 Oct, 13)
Jay Law ends Iron Ben Coles reign as AWF Australasian Champion by pinning him with a powerbomb in a near 20 minute bout to become the new AWF Australasian Champion.
Future Prospect: Saxon Bruce
Saxon Bruce debuted as Jack Tasman’s partner on 12 October after training hard for 2 years at the AWF School of Pro-Wrestling. Moves well for a big man, and will be interesting to see if he can make his presence felt and make an impact in 2014.

AWF Championship News
- The AWF Young Lion's Championship has been vacated as Magnum Holmes has disappeared from action and hasn't defended the championship in 90 days. A new champion will be crowned later in 2014 once a stellar field of under 25 competitors is established.
- Mighty Mel became the Australian Women’s Champion on 12 October defeating Rachel Rose. Congrats to Mighty Mel for all of her work with AWF over many years, and for being a good ambassador for the company.
- Rumours are abound that there may be troubles in the AWF Tag Team Champions ranks of the Beasts of the Colosseum after Apollo defeated partner Draven to win the OJ Fitzpatrick Memorial Cup at Year End Extravaganza on 7 December, 2013. Apollo made it clear that he had intentions for more glory than the tag titles and would be going after other belts in AWF if possible in 2014.
- Commonwealth Champion Blakestone has the challengers lining up, and after being turned down as Blakestone’s manager, “Lord” Mark Williamson is on a mission to send competitors from around Australia to defeat the Commonwealth Champion. After Blakestone abolished South Australia’s Grimm, Williamson and new charge Massive Q attacked the Champion, and have set the stage for a huge Title bout at Parramatta on 1 Feb, 2014. Feud build up can be viewed here:
- Jay Law is the new Australasian Champion and has the best wrestlers from around the world petitioning for title shots. After escaping TNT at Year End Extravaganza on 7 December via disqualification in his first title defence, Law will make his second defence against the number 1 contender at Windsor Wrestlefest on 22 February. It will be interesting to see if Law can be a dominant champion in AWF. Jay Law makes a statement here:

The Detonation Crew Explodes!
After much miscommunication in 2013, and tensions perhaps stemming back from PsychoticSlam 2012, TNT attacked Iron Ben Coles post misfires at Year End Extravaganza events that cost TNT losses to Michael Elgin of Canada, and a disqualification loss to Jay Law on the verge of winning the Australasian Championship. As a result of the attack TNT injured Iron Ben’s right arm, and Coles went to the hospital and required surgery, and will miss AWF events in early 2014.
TNT and Coles are no doubt headed for a collision in 2014 once Coles recovers from the brutal attack causing bicep surgery.
Footage of the events can be viewed here:
