February Fight Club Fall Out!

1 Feb saw AWF at Parramatta RSL for its first event of 2014. Many newsworthy points came out of the event and the stage has now been set for the upcoming Windsor and Sydney events.
Gladiator Apollo walked out of Parramatta the new Number 1 Contender for Jay Law’s Australasian Championship after power bombing and pinning TNT after snatching him from the turnbuckles while he was distracted by “Iron” Ben Coles. Apollo’s victory continues his recent momentum since becoming AWF Tag Team Champion, where he has since won the OJ Fitzpatrick Cup, and now will compete for the AWF Australasian Championship. Jay Law on the other hand looked strong defeating Coles in October at PsychoticSlam, but was pinned by TNT at Year End Extravaganza, only to escape as Champion via Disqualification, and missed the Fight Club event as he only has to defend every 90 days. This Australasian Title Main Event Bout between Apollo and Law has been set for Windsor Wrestling Arena on 22 Feb will be an intense and interesting battle for sure! Don’t miss what happens here!

AWF Commonwealth Champion Blakestone returned to action, bouncing back from the Mark Williamson directed attack at PsychoticSlam 2013, to defeated the challenge of Massive Q. Post bout Williamson’s latest charge, Seth Maxx entered to save “Lord” Mark from a potential beating. Blakestone Vs Maxx has been set for a Commonwealth Title bout at The Metro Lair on 15 March. In between this time, on 22 Feb, Williamson has lined up another newcomer to face Blakestone at Windsor Wrestling Arena. Who will it be? Be at Windsor to find out, as Wlliamson’s assault on Blakestone continues!

Australian Women’s Champion Mighty Mel, was blindside by tag partner Rachel Rose at Parramatta on 1 Feb, with the unprovoked attack causing Mel to be pinned in the match. Rose stated she was still fuming over the fact that she should have been the winner at PsychoticSlam when the women’s Title was created, and will get her belt sooner rather than later. Mel will face Rose in a womens showdown at The Metro Lair on 15 March. At Windsor Wrestlefest, Mighty Mel will face newcomer Lara Wilde, in what Mel hopes will be a more friendly and sportswoman like encounter.

The Parramatta event saw many newcomers also make an impact. Tyson Gibbs was very impressive in his debut and victory over Diego Del Fuego, and stated he had come to AWF to win the AWF Australasian Championship… Whiskey Sixx out rocked Ali Abraham in both men’s professional debut. Both wrestlers showed much skill and promise in their first live bout, but it was Whiskey who got the win with a big 450 splash in the end. The victory will see Whiskey Sixx head to Windsor Wrestlefest, while Ali will bide his time and return at a future event… Saxon Bruce scored the first win of his career over the Gold Coasts “Showtime” Jake Nova. Bruce almost knocked Nova’s head off flying back to Qld with a stiff lariat to get the win. Bruce will head to Windsor, will Nova will regather and will be on the upcoming Metro Lair and Gold Coast Supanova shows to see if he can come into the winners circle… Robbie Barnes was impressive in victory against Victoria’s Benny Factor, with Benny claiming he was robbed in his Sydney debut, and wants another chance to return to prove himself… Seth Maxx made an impact joining Mark Williamson’s stable of goons and scoring the biggest win of his career against one half of the AWF Tag Team Champions Dean Draven. Maxx will now go into heavy training for his Commonwealth Title Bout against Blakestone on 15 March at The Metro Lair… Many new faces, and some returning ones, plus some big surprises instore! The Fight Club event certainly provided lots of action. If you missed it, be sure to check out the AWF website store to order on AWF DVD in March. Results can be seen here

Windsor WrestleFest Set to be Wild!

AWF returns to the Windsor Wrestling Arena for a big night of action headlined by the current Australasian Champion Jay Law, battling the AWF Tag Team Champion and recent OJ Fitzpatrick Cup winner, Gladiator Apollo. It shall be interesting to see who the fans get behind on this one? Jay Law is usually despised, but with Apollo’s recent cocky attitude this one may split many fans. Be there to choose your side and support two top professionals!

On top of this bout, two ring veterans of 15 plus years each will battle, both hungry to return to the winners circle coming off losses at Parramatta on 1 Feb. TNT will face “Panther” Dean Draven, in a bout that has the making of being a hard hitting & technical highlight reel. TNT has had recent distractions with Iron Ben Coles plaguing him, and Draven seems annoyed with partner Apollo’s new attitude, and perhaps that his partner beat him for the OJ Cup. See both men vent their frustrations against each other in this main event calibre bout.

Mighty Mel has signed to face newcomer Lara Wilde in singles action. Mel was recently double crossed by Rachel Rose, will she be more wary of Wilde? Find out at Windsor!

Mark Williamson continues his quest to conquer and destroy Blakestone. He says he has a big surprise at Windsor. We’ll see if he can follow through with his threats.

More bouts to be announced in the lead up! Windsor Wrestlefest will be another eventful and stacked show, so be sure to get your tickets now at
Big surprises and announcements on the night!

AWF Championship News

Gladiator Apollo has been complaining to AWF management that he wants new AWF Tag Team Title belts. After much petitioning, AWF has answered Apollo’s demands, and new belts have been commissioned, to be unveiled soon!

More Talent to Start & Return to AWF

Iron Ben Coles appeared from the crowd at the climax of the Number 1 contenders bout featuring TNT & Apollo at Parramatta on 1 Feb. A shocked TNT became distracted while getting ready to perhaps Crazyjack Apollo for victory, and Coles riled TNT up even more, by removing his arm sling, showing his arm was healing, and he may return to action in a few months. The distraction allowed Apollo to powerbomb TNT off the buckles and score victory. Afterwoods TNT and Coles had words and TNT attempted to attack Coles, but security managed to separate the two. This is not over by a long shot. It is unknown at this stage when Coles can return to the ring, but he is looking to pay back TNT any way possible in the meantime by the looks of things.

Diego Del Fuego, livid that he lost his first bout of 2014 to newcomer Tyson Gibbs, has challenged any other newcomer in Australia to a bout at CitySlam @ The Metro Lair on 15 March. Diego says “ I’m going to light the ring on fire with my lucha style in Sydney, so whoever dares face me be ready to be smoked!” Del Fuego’s opponent will be announced soon!

International wrestling sensation Kenny Omega has been in talks with AWF, and will likely come to Australia for AWF events in the coming months. This exciting and entertaining wrestler is a big part of the DDT wrestling promotion in Japan, and is regarded as one of the top independent wrestlers in the world today. AWF looks forward to seeing Kenny Omega in an AWF ring in 2014!
Other international wrestling stars also in talks to possibly wrestle on future AWF cards are former WWE Intercontinental Champion and Tag Team Champion, “The Rocker” Marty Jannetty, Former ECW World Champion Tommy Dreamer, numerous Ring of Honour and Pro-Wrestling Guerrilla talents, and DragonGate Japan ace, and former AWF Australasian Champion Cima.
2014 is definitely looking like a big year with plenty of great talent and surprises!
